Walking For Autism

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Dear Family and Friends,

Forgive me for not personalizing this, but we are too busy around here trying to help people with special needs, especially those with autism.

I should be embarrassed coming to you year after year, but the truth is, I am not.

This is an epidemic that is only growing, worse then any plague ever recorded

When I began as a new therapist, 1 out of every 10,000 children was diagnosed as autistic.

Now, 1 out 110 children is diagnosed with autism;

1 of every 70 boys in Northern New Jersey &

1 of every 38 children in South Korea.

I could be humble, but this is not time.

We need to protect your children, grand children and great grand children.

Help us find a cure.

NAA Westchester Parent Discuss Tomatis

Friday, March 25th, 2011

It was great to join this group of smart, well informed parents of children on the spectrum last Monday.  They discussed many cutting edge therapies that they have been involved with.  I was pleased when the conversation turned to listening programs.  Among the 20 or so families represented, 6 had been through some form of Tomatis auditory training.  They all agreed that they saw gains which did not dissipate over time.  Among the gains reported were increased eye contact, decreased self stimulatory behaviors, and increased use of language.  What a great evening! Thanks for the pizza and the company!  Let’s do it again soon!

My wish for the coming year

Friday, December 31st, 2010

In the coming year I wish for….

More initiation of vocalization
More eye contact
More social exchange
Better postural control
Less anger and defiance
Better auditory processing
Less sadness and anxiety
Better sleep
Better sensory processing

And peace, love and joy to all my old friends and those I have yet to meet!

Autism and Solisten

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Two brothers on the spectrum just finished their 30th day of listening.  AA, the Mom, reports some resistance but definite changes in ability to follow directions.  Speech and ABA therapists are noting better performance and carryover.  Remember, change is sometimes uncomfortable.
